Today we spent the day downtown looking at all of the different types of parks and gardens. We walked through the vegetable and rose gardens, the prairie landscaping, Buckingham fountain in grant park. We visited Millennium park, the south garden of the Art Institute, Gallery 37 and the Chicago Architecture Gallery.
Lot(s) is a pedagogical approach to empowering communities to design local common public spaces. Lot(s) seeks to recruit and connect artists and designers with communities, to utilize the knowledge imbedded within the community to create place(s) that facilitate(s) and commemorate(s) local history while looking towards social and ecological goals of the future. This collaboration between community members and artists in the creation of neighborhood spaces brings together local knowledge and a diverse resource base to effectively address several of the desires and problems concerning neighborhood. By utilizing a network of overlapping interests in the same physical and ideological spaces, project participants will work together to provide a model for future collaborations.
